THE MEMORY
A chaotic morning before school, the Sunday oil champi, or the holiday ritual of braiding each other’s hair, they all bring to mind a familiar sight of mirrors, the feel of a comb, the scent of herbs and oils, and a relaxing head massage!
All those times, it was never just about the hair, was it? Those minutes were filled with lessons for life, offered in the form of stories passed down through generations. From our grandmothers to our mothers and then to us.
If we were to pause and think of all that was woven into our being with each braid, we'd probably need a circle of sisters around to untangle and discover the lessons absorbed in each one. Lessons that influenced our relationship with not only our hair, but also our bodies, and our sense of self.
Untamed, unruly curls or the long, luscious braids, our hair has been a witness to our life story, an extension of our personalities.
THE WORKSHOP
Braided Narratives is a nourishing residential retreat for women to engage with identities through internalised narratives.
We invite all those who identify as women and are going through life transitions, whether it is a change in role, an experience of loss, preparation for something new, or the brave act of pausing to choose oneself. Many times, our journeys in life keep us occupied with the external changes. Here, we invite you to pay attention to the simultaneous internal shifts and the range of emotions surfacing during these movements.
What is emerging as you prepare to cross the threshold?
What unspoken lessons are being revealed?
How are your internalised narratives shaping your next steps?
Who is the narrator of these emerging narratives?
If any of these resonate with you or inspire a whole new set of questions and reflections, we have a place for you at Braided Narratives, where we will meet and interact with the invisible yet omnipresent female gaze.
We will do so by listening to our dreams, unpacking the memories stored not just in our minds, but also in our bodies, immersing ourselves in nature, and weaving new narratives.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
A nourishing community of women, a community of 12 to 14 women that we will co-create over these 4 days.
Our days will begin with some immersion in nature and end with a community meal and some play. Throughout the day we will come together in small and large reflective groups to work with the personal and social themes that emerge as we untangle our braids. These groups will be a combination of talking, collective dreaming, cooking together, and some writing. In addition, we will also have breaks to just be, stretch our bodies, or sip on some chai under the golden sunsets.
We invite you to bring your honest and authentic selves and immerse yourself in this collective journey. You are welcome to share, listen, and reflect on the impact you experience as well as the impact you have on others.
As we go inwards, the process can be emotionally intense for some. We encourage you to assess your own emotional capacities and set boundaries that protect you and yet allow space for growth and expansion. You are welcome to share as little or as much as you feel moved to in the moment.
Grounded in Therapeutic Community philosophy and Group Analytic Psychotherapy, both facilitators will be available to guide you and hold you through the entire process.
WHERE IS IT?
Our venue is an ancestral home in Kud, a home that embodies the feminine spirit. It was built by Arushi’s maternal grandmothers and aunts. We are consciously choosing a space full of history and strength to hold us as we journey through emerging intergenerational narratives.
Kud is a small hill station and a popular tourist spot in Jammu & Kashmir. It is about an hour's drive from Udhampur and 2.5 hours from Jammu.
Please note: There is no step-free access to the venue as well as within the house.
We will share the exact location with registered participants.
